Graduate-Student Access

This section provides information on management classes facilitated by Avanti Fontana in solo or in co-teaching in Graduate Program in Management in Indonesia. For Academic Year 2007/2008, she facilitates classes at FEUI Graduate Program in Management:

Organization Theory & Behavior

Organization Theory involves building and testing theory about organizations, their members and their management, organization-environment relations, and organizing processes. Theoretical advances in organization theory have included strategic choice, resource dependence theory, organizational ecology and institutional theory. Organization Behavior is the study of individuals and groups within an organizational context, and the study of internal processes and practices as they affect individuals and groups. Major topics include: individual characteristics such as beliefs, values and personality; individual processes such as perception, motivation, decision making, judgment, commitment and control; group characteristics such as size, composition and structural properties; group processes such as decision making and leadership; organizational processes and practices such as goal setting, appraisal, feedback, rewards, and behavioral aspects of task design; and the influence of all of these on such individual, group, and organizational outcomes as performance, turnover, absenteeism, and stress. The discussion will be extended to the aspects that influence or are influenced by different perspectives of organization and their implication to strategic management.

Strategy Process

Strategy Process exposes and discusses roles of general managers in forming, executing, and changing strategies to the students of Strategic Management. The subject exposes as well different roles played in strategy formation by different groups (strategic apex, operating core, supporting staff, etc.) in different organization contexts. We adress questions e.g.,: how do top management teams make sense of their business environments? What management structures, systems, and processes do they employ to help shape and implement strategy, as well as to accumulate and leverage a firm’s capabilities? How do they orchestrate a firm’s strategic transformation and its continuous renewal thereafter? What roles do other managers play in the strategy process? What different modes of strategy formation can organizations use in different organizational contexts?

Knowledge, Innovation & Change

Seminar on Knowledge, Innovation & Change (SKIC) exposes subjects and issues on knowledge, innovation, and change, the leaders’ capabilities in leading, managing and using knowledge and organizational knowledge to create advantages based on competences and consequently to create competitive advantage. Participants are encouraged to discuss productively issues on organizational knowledge, the location of organizational knowledge, how learning in organization is taking place, how learning process improves or creates better organizational knowledge, how knowledge is transferred and is shared within an organization and between or among organizations, and how to better manage knowledge, learning, innovation and change to create better and substantial unique values for organizational stakeholders. Conceptual frameworks and findings in knowledge, innovation and change research are presented and discussed. Relevant issues in the domains of knowledge management, innovation management and change management are highlighted.
